Can We Can Be Your Your Primary Care Physician
and Other Frequently Asked Questions

What types of patients does Dr. Ahmed treat? Can she be my primary care physician?

Dr. Ahmed is a board certified internist (internal medicine doctor) and will treat all adults older than 18. She has special training in caring for patients older than 65. At this time, we do not treat children and we do not provide prenatal care. She can be your primary care physician as well.

To understand the difference between an internist and a primary care physician, it is important to realize that one is a specialty, and the other is a role. An internist is a physician who specializes in internal medicine, and is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases.

While an internist can function as a primary care physician, he or she may also focus their practice on hospital medicine, medical education and/or research. On the other hand, a primary care physician may be an internist, a pediatrician, a geriatrician, a family practitioner, a gynecologist or an obstetrician, because the primary care physician handles promoting overall health for the entire individual within the specific population (geriatrics, pediatrics, etc.) of the physician’s specialty.

How much time will the doctor spend with me and how much will the doctor visit cost?
A new patient visit to the doctors office is 60 minutes and a follow-up visit is 30 minutes. Our prices are set according to Medicare guidelines; the initial visit is $210.00 and the follow-up visit is $105.00. For the complete fee schedule see our Fee Schedule page.
How far away will the doctor travel for house calls?
You must live within a 5 mile radius of the clinic to be a part of the house call program. However, we will make exceptions to this rule, so please give us a call.
What is a geriatric consult? When should I request an appointment with a geriatric specialist?
A geriatric physician has received additional training in preventing, diagnosing, and treating geriatric syndromes, or diseases that are unique to the older adult. If you feel you have one of these syndromes then you can make an appointment to see a geriatric specialist. We can also screen for many of the geriatric syndromes and discuss prevention strategies if these syndromes are common in your family. You can continue to see your primary care physician while seeing our geriatric specialists.
How do I contact the doctor if I have a question about my healthcare?
If you are already a patient you can message the doctor through our patient portal; all messages will be answered within 24 hours. Our doctors are on call after hours as well. If you are not a patient, you can call our office or email us. Our contact information can be found on our contact page. Lastly, you can set up a telemedicine appointment to ask questions or review your plan of care with the physician again. We will be happy to discuss our recommendations with your primary care physician as well.
Can I do a telemedicine visit?
If Dr. Ahmed is your primary care physician and you have completed your new patient visit, then you can choose to have your follow up appointment in the clinic or through our telemedicine program. We also offer appointments with our geriatric specialists to anyone living in the state of Texas through our telemedicine program; in this situation we recommend that you choose a local doctor as your primary care physician. If you have any questions about this service, just email us. villagephysicians@gmail.com
